Meet Josh Mason
Josh is the son of Dennis Mason, a descendant of the English Reverend John Davenport, who was the co-founder of the American colony of New Haven, and Deborah Zola, who’s family immigrated to the United States from Ukraine and Eastern Europe in the early 1900’s through Ellis Island. Josh was born in Houston Texas before relocating to Dennis Massachusetts five years later where Josh and his younger sister Ashley were raised, and where Josh currently resides.
Josh graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in 2000 as a member of the class of the new millennium. He attended Hofstra University in New York graduating with a Bachelors degree in film production in 2004. After college he relocated to Los Angeles to work in the television and film industry. Following the recession of 2008 he moved to Manhattan, Boston, and then came home to Cape Cod permanently.
Since being back on Cape Cod full time Josh noticed a lot of changes that had taken place, and not all of them positive. He spent four years in hospitality management, building business relationships and more importantly customer relationships, Josh then decided to take that energy into the community and build stronger community relations through political activism. He joined the Dennis Democratic Town Committee and channeled his experience of working on three presidential campaigns over the course of 17 years, assisting in getting some of our brightest and best local officials elected.
In 2016 Josh decided it was time to step up and challenge the First Barnstable District State Rep incumbent to serve his community responsibly, transparently, and effectively as State Representative. Josh came up short in the primary race and re-directed his efforts to expanding his newfound experience to other areas in the community. Josh was appointed to the Dennis Affordable Housing Trust, the Dennis Planning Board, and voted in to represent the Town of Dennis on the Barnstable HOME Consortium.
He also teamed up with members of the Cape school system and mental health professionals as a member of the Community Partnership Committee to assist the Cape’s youth dealing with mental illness and substance use. Josh then attended the Dennis Citizens Police Academy, upon completion he joined the Dennis Police Community Crisis Intervention Team to help law enforcement and the Cape’s mental health organizations in assisting members of our community dealing with mental health and substance use related challenges. Josh currently serves as the Chairman of the Dennis Democratic Town Committee.
In his free time Josh enjoys writing, reading, cinema, hitting the gym, boxing, attending concerts, and religiously following New England sports teams.
